About Lessons
Have you ever dreamt of singing in the spotlight? Hoping to encourage your child to pursue their musical dreams? Do you want the lead in the high school musical? If so, voice lessons are for you!
Students will work on musicality, breath control, stage presence, character development, basic music theory, sight-singing, memorization and vocal technique. Repertoire will be chosen according to each individual student's interests and ability. Materials chosen will help the student develop both as a musician and vocalist.
Voice by Erin students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Region process each year. This is a great opportunity to develop self-discipline while learning demanding repertoire.
The first part of the fall semester will be devoted to basic vocal technique and All-State music should the student choose to participate in the contest. Mid-fall semester work will begin on UIL Solos for the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest. In the spring students work on musicality in the UIL solo piece. After Solo and Ensemble work begins on other genres; this will generally be a musical number, or classical art song depending on the student's interests and abilities. At this point students will also work their recital and audition pieces for spring pop show and any other vocal auditions he or she might be working toward. Students generally have many opportunities to learn selections for various events throughout the year. Students are encouraged to bring all types of music to lessons.
Students who choose not to participate in the contests or are not in the school choir work on classical and musical theatre pieces that help build their audition repertoire and technique. Being in the school choir is not a requirement to take voice lessons!
All skill levels and ages 12 and up are welcome.
